@goedel - absolutely. my wife and i talk about it all the time. a lot of my friends, including non-nepalis who grew up in kathmandu, want to make a life here but find it difficult exactly for those reasons. each of those 4 points are extremely important. i would argue that even just having more fun activities to do in kathmandu would make a huge difference in how many people leave the country. there's a reason why so many people in the US gravitate towards cities like San Francisco or New York. and there's a reason why the entertainmment industry is as large as it is. unless a person is a devout buddhist and totally detached, it's the simple that make you like a city. at least for me.
